Howard T. Ellis, 90, died June 9 in Hilo. Born in South Carolina, he was a physicist at National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration Mauna Loa Observatory, a Korean War veteran who served in both the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy and graduated from the University of Georgia. Survived by wife, Lena Yuen Ellis of Hilo; stepchildren, Lu Lynn de Silva of California, Dr. Alan (Sam) de Silva and Tim De Silva of Hilo; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
